An application pool is basically a way of seperating each site on the server
into their own little universe. In a typical setup, all sites share an
application pool. The problem with this, is that if 1 site has bad code
that crashes the application pool, all site in that pool go offline.
Seperating each site to it's own pool uses more server resources, but ensures
that only your own site can crash the application pool, and you aren't subject
to the doings of others.
Advanced Website Statistics
Most hosting providers will not give you any statistics and instead tell you to
use a limited online statistics system. If they do give you anything it's
very limited and usually cumbersome to use, or lacking accurate information.
