Being a good steward to the Earth and Mother Nature is important to Satori, that's why we have
been committed to the environment and preserving Earth's natural resources from
our very inception as a socially and environmentally conscious business.
At Satori Tech Solutions, we didn't want to just say we were green; we wanted to
demonstrate it, to ourselves and to our clients, by striving to create a
sustainable hosting and IT environment. Our company was built from the
ground up to provide hosting services and web development in an environmentally
conscious manner that benefits our customers as well as our global environment
in which we live.
We have taken a number of steps to ensure that we provide an environmentally
friendly solution that is not only leading edge today, but will remain on the leading
edge for
generations to come. Some of the innovative steps we have taken are:
Nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, the air outside our data center
never rises above the temperature coming out of our servers. We are
utilizing this naturally cool air to reduce our air conditioning costs by
bringing in outside air to cool the data center. Because our AC unit is not
needed to cool the much warmer air from the servers, it reduces our energy
usage significantly. In fact, nearly half of the year, we don't even have to use air
conditioning to keep the servers cool; they maintain an optimum state by
utilizing these natural eco-friendly methods.
A huge waste of energy in any data center comes from servers that are not currently
being used to perform beneficial tasks. As servers sit idle, they
continue to use an alarming amount of power while they are waiting to respond instantly to any
request.
We use an advanced dynamic resource allocation system that automatically
transfers tasks from one server to another, ensuring that our servers are not
running idle, then bringing additional servers online as they are needed.
This ensures energy conservation by using only the power that we need at any
given time.
Everyone knows that computers use a lot of energy, so in addition to saving as much
energy as we can, we want to generate clean renewable power to run our servers. Our data
center sits next to a 100 acre plot that will be the home of our future solar
power system that will greatly reduce our net power usage, and eventually become
"off-grid" and self-sustaining while also remaining reliable and efficient.
Plans are in place to plant more shade trees to help cool the buildings and Data
Center; and neutralize CO2 emissions.
Satori Tech Solutions has implemented a "Green Team" to oversee our current
Green initiative as well as create a vision and strategic plan for future
improvements.
Our goal is to be a LEED certified by 2011 and eventually off-grid using 100%
renewable energy.
