You've probably heard of POP mail, POP mail was designed about 23 years ago, and
features only the ability to download a message to your computer. It is
then your computers responsibility to track sent mail and archive those emails.
This significantly limits the usefulness of POP mail systems.
Although POP3 is supported by SmarterMail, we offer the much more advanced IMAP4
system which is supported by every major mail applications.
IMAP offers a great number of benefits over POP. First it stores your
email, both sent and received on the server. This allows you to access
that email from anywhere, even after you have read it on one computer. If
you send an email from your desktop, you will be able to access that sent mail
from your webmail client or your cell phone within moments. If you create
a folder on your webmail client, the folder will automatically be
available on your desktop and cell phone.
IMAP also offers a higher level of redundancy, because not only is your email
stored on our redundent servers, it's also stored on each device that you access
your mail from, this ensure that there are always multiple backups of your
email.
